  • About 100 feet long
  • Weigh about 200 tons (their tongue alone weighs as much as an elephant, and their heart weighs as much as an auto mobile)
  • Largest known animal to ever live on earth.
  • Claves are born 25 feet long and weigh 3 tons
  • Live around 90-80 years
  • Normally travel alone
  • Nurse calf for about a year
  • Feed off of krill
  • Can eat 4 tons of krill a day
  • Open mouth as swimming and filter out krill with teeth (baleen)  
  • Can swim up to 20 miles an hour

Vocalization

  • Loudest animals on Earth (can be as loud as a jet engine)
  • Use a series of moans, pulses, and clicks
  • Can hear each other up to 1,000 miles away
  • Use sounds to communicate and to sonar navigate in deep dark parts of the ocean
